Trevor Shiels KC is a graduate of the University of Otago.  For a number of years he was in general practice including civil and criminal litigation, and property, commercial, and corporate transactions.  He became a Barrister in 1992.

Trevor has advised and represented clients in a range of civil proceedings but he now primarily advises and appears on disputes and potential disputes in relation to vendor/purchaser, lessor/lessee and other real property matters, trusts, and other equity disputes.  Trevor has also advised and appeared on significant disputes with central and local government and other public bodies, including judicial review applications.

Trevor also welcomes instructions as an arbitrator, being a Fellow in Arbitration and Arbitration panel member of AMINZ, and as a Hearings Commissioner under the Resource Management Act being accredited by MFE to chair RMA hearings.

Trevor was appointed as a Queen’s Counsel in 2013.

Trevor has been an active member of professional bodies, including as President of the Otago District Law Society, Member of the NZLS Council and Board, and member of the NZ Bar Association Board.

Trevor also has Chambers in Dunedin and is available nationwide.
