Tom Ashley graduated LLB(Hons) at the University of Auckland and was admitted to the NZ bar in 2015. After starting his legal career at a large Auckland firm, he spent several years away from legal practice pursuing professional opportunities in the sports industry including positions as Head Coach of the Chinese Olympic Windsurfing Team and CEO of Canoe Racing NZ Inc.

Tom joined Eldon Chambers in 2022 and obtained a Masters in Law (Commercial) with distinction in 2023.

Tom has a particular interest in contract, maritime and international commercial law but enjoys maintaining a broad civil litigation practice. He has appeared as sole counsel in defended hearings in the District Court and High Court and as junior counsel in the High Court, Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Fiji and has published in the Lloyd’s Maritime and Commercial Law Quarterly. He accepts civil/commercial and regulatory (criminal and investigation) defence instructions including applications for urgent interlocutory orders and injunctions and appeals.
